From the Desk of the Chairman

Wooops, 20 days later and I’m sorry about that. Let’s blame the public holiday. Typically, there is a draft that just keeps getting added to over the month as stories come in but this time we had few stories come in to publish so boohooo. I suppose that’s an invitation…

Now that you’ve emerged from your quick break of writing up your lovely stories for next month, I’ve made some interesting discoveries, like the 53 available FTFs in South Africa (from as far back as 2011) and that our website update is nearly effected. Oh and that we’re going to be featured in Die Burger, want, hoekom nie?

From a statistical point of view, there’s also promise, with a third of the year still to go, we’re only 56 hides and 1853 unique finds away from our first year on year growth since lockdown. Something must be going right.

Most exciting at the moment is that Trevor contacted me to indicate that they’re adding some more stat categories. I have no idea what they are but with only 11 days before the next newsletter, there’s no need to wait tooooo long.

Oh and it’s summer :) don’t forget to drink water.

659 Cachers found a total of 3,350 caches during June 2026.

40 Cachers placed 136 new caches during June 2026.

The number of Cachers who found at least 1 SA cache in the previous 12 months is 6,702.

The number of Cachers who placed at least 1 SA cache in the previous 12 months is 198.

The total number of SA caches found in the previous 12 months: 68,652 (188 per day).

The total number of active South African caches at the end of June is 13,780.

Typically when looking for caches that are desperate to be found, we use tools to find caches that haven’t been found in some time. Imagine the surprise when it was found that 53 caches in South Africa have not been found yet…ever. Hopefully some of that would have changed before this newsletter goes out but if you’re in the mood for some good ol’ FTF hunting, maybe get some friends together…
