Cherrypicker Sunday

A few weeks ago a very interesting topic of conversation started on the JHB geo chat WA group- who would be interested in finding some of Joburg's extremely high caches, with the help of a cherrypicker? One of the Pretoria teams had done the work and interest picked up and soon there were many teams who were interested.

A date was set for the event (30 August 2015) and pannie&medusae worked out a program for the day. Very early on a Sunday morning, the teams met up at the first cache. Many, many teams. Leon St and HeinG were towing the most amazing thing, the cherrypicker. It was started up, sounded a lot like an angry lawnmower, and the first teams, headed up by Clodz, ascended into the consternation. A DNF! After much hilarity, many wisecracks and many very puzzled muggles, a quick call to the CO, and the cache was replaced. Then the really long line of vehicles set off following the cherrypicker like a long line of chicks following a mother hen.

The pace of the day picked up from there on. It was as much fun as only a group geocaching event can be and it was busy and successful. Many of the terrain 5 caches were found and the cherry on the cake was the group FTF that the day ended on.

Would we cache in a group like this again? Oh yes, bring it on!!

On behalf of all the teams involved our grateful thanks to all the organisers.
